Tim Appenzeller is an editor at U.S. News & World Report magazine, in Washington, DC. He is a generalist who has roamed throughout science during 20 years as an editor and writer for publications including Time-Life Books, Scientific American, The Sciences, and most recently, Science. During the first four of his eight years at Science, he edited and wrote news stories on physical sciences, working with staff writers and a large number of freelancers. Later he was responsible for coordinating Science's news and features on both biology and physical sciences. He now writes occasional stories on cosmology and physics for the science section of U.S. News while editing the magazine's health and medicine coverage.
