Fractionalization of the electron

In this lecture we will show how excitations that have a fraction of the
electron charge are possible in condensed-matter systems with many
electrons. We will discuss three examples of physical systems where such
phenomena can occur: polyacetelene (1D system), graphene, and quantum Hall
liquids (2D systems).
