While there is no official deadline (we take applications until the workshop is full), we urge you to apply early if you want a single room at the conference center or a particular instructor.
Step 0. Read the FAQ.
Step 1. Please fill out and submit our online form. For a more retro, low-tech alternative, you can download this pdf version of the form, print it out, and send it by fax or post.)
Here is the contact information:
Santa Fe Science Writing Workshop
P.O. Box 1442
Santa Fe, New Mexico 87504-1442
fax: (267) 295-8526
(If you apply by fax or snailmail, please also send an email to the above address so we'll know to look for your application.)
Step 2. Please follow up with a paragraph or two describing yourself and why you want to attend. You can send this by email, fax, or snailmail to the above address. (If you send this as an attachment please use a universally readable format -- plain text, pdf, or rtf.)
Step 3. We will begin processing the first batch of applications in mid February and will get back to you with a decision by early March. After that we will consider remaining applications as they arrive. Upon notice of acceptance, you will be asked to mail a check for tuition and lodging, payable to Santa Fe Science-Writing Workshop, to the above address. To reduce paperwork, we ask that this payment be made in full within 30 days. If that is not possible, please pay a deposit of $250 upon acceptance and the balance by May 1. (We understand that it can take time to cut an institutional or government check.)
If your employer is paying the workshop costs, please refer them to these payment instructions. (You may want to print out a copy and include it with your budget request.) Since we do not have an office manager or support staff, we ask that all communication be by email.
Step 4. We will pass along your lodging information to the registrar at Ghost Ranch Santa Fe. (Remember if you are not staying there, you will still need to pay the center's commuter fee.)
If there are openings available after May 1, those applying will need to pay in full before the first day of the workshop.
You are welcome to bring along a spouse or friend. If they are sharing your double-occupancy room at the conference center, the additional lodging cost is $275 for the duration of the workshop. This includes breakfast and lunch. (For alternatives, see the list of bed and breakfasts on the FAQ.)
Cancellation policy: Lodging cancellations made before May 1 are subject to a $50 processing fee by Ghost Ranch Santa Fe. No refund for lodging or tuition can be given after May 1, unless we can fill the position from the waiting list.
